Pittock Avenue (until 1910) |
This street was first called Pittock Avenue by a city ordinance in 1900, which established its location from Tilbury Avenue to Pocussett Avenue (today Pocusset Street).[1] The part between Murray Avenue and Pocussett Avenue was repealed in 1903.[2] This original alignment was essentially east–west, in a straight line from Tilbury to Murray.[3]
The street was redirected to the north by the 1907 Shady Avenue plan and the 1908 Hallett Shady Avenue plan.[4][5] Ebenezer Hallett, who laid out the 1908 plan, and John C. and William B. Sneathen, who owned the adjacent property, dedicated land for the street,[6][7] and its official location was changed accordingly.[8][9]
The name Pittock Street was officially established by a city ordinance in 1910.[10]
