This street appears as Columbia Street in maps dating back to the 1850s.[1][2][3] It was skipped in the numbering of streets up the Allegheny River that was done in 1868,[4] perhaps because it did not intersect Penn Street.
In 1910, three years after Pittsburgh annexed Allegheny City, over 900 streets were renamed to fix duplicates. The name Columbia conflicted with Columbia Place, so Columbia Street was renamed Colville Street.[5]
