Tarragonna Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
(Redirected from Beltzhoover Street)
Tarragonna Street
Neighborhoods Bon Air, Carrick, Knoxville
Margaret Street (until 1907)
Beltzhoover Street (until 1907)
Portion Possibly only the northern part
Telfair Avenue (1907–1909)

This street appears at the eastern edge of several plans of lots laid out in 1889, though these plans do not give it a name.[1][2][3][4] An adjacent plan of lots in Knoxville, laid out in 1899 and redrawn in 1907, shows a segment of the street at its western edge, though again with no name.[5]

In 1900, a plan of lots laid out by Frank I. Gosser gave the name Margaret Street to a southern portion of this street, further south than the street extends today.[6] By 1905 the name seems to have been applied to the full length of the street.[7] Alternatively, the street (or perhaps just the northern part of it) may have been called Beltzhoover Street[8] since it was in the same line as Beltzhoover Avenue to the north.

In 1907, a West Liberty Borough ordinance changed both Beltzhoover Street and Margaret Street to Telfair Avenue.[8]

West Liberty Borough was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1908,[9] and the following year a Pittsburgh city ordinance changed the name again to Tarragonna Street.[10]
