Hermitage Street was laid out by James Kelly, who once owned much of the land that became the neighborhood of Homewood.[1][2][3] It is named for the Hermitage, the estate of Andrew Jackson outside Nashville, Tennessee. Nearby Monticello Street and Mount Vernon Street are also named for presidential estates.
