From Pittsburgh Streets
Yale Street
Neighborhood Perry South
Origin of name Yale University

This street appears, unlabeled, in the 1872 Hopkins atlas;[1] it is labeled Yale Street in the 1882 edition.[2] The street was laid out through the land of Washington McClintock (1814–1870)[3][4][5][6] by his heirs.[1][2] It is named for Yale University, or rather Yale College, as it was named before 1887.[7] Many of the members of the McClintock family attended Yale,[8] including Washington's sons Oliver (1839–1922, graduated 1861),[3][4][5][6][9][10][8] Walter L. (c. 1840 – 1911, graduated 1862),[11][6][10] Washington, Jr. (c. 1847 – 1910, enrolled 1865 but did not graduate),[12][13][10] Thompson (c. 1848 – 1940, graduated 1870),[14][10] and Frank T. (c. 1853 – 1925, graduated 1875),[15][10] as well as Oliver's three sons Norman (1868–1938, graduated 1891),[3][16][10][8] Walter (1870–1949, graduated 1891, eponym of McClintock Peak in Glacier National Park),[3][17][10] and Harvey C. (1882–1943, graduated 1903)[3][18][10] and his son-in-law Thomas Darling (1863–1926, graduated 1886).[3][19][10]
