Walter McClintock, Expert on Indian Lore
Services were held today at H. Samson's, 537 N. Neville St., for Walter McClintock, 79, of the Ruskin Apartments, Oakland, who died Thursday in Magee Hospital.
Mr. McClintock, a graduate of Yale, was appointed in 1896 by President Cleveland to recommend a national policy for the U. S. Forest Reserves. as a result of this work, he became interested in the Blackfoot Indians, remained with them, and was adopted into a tribe as the chief's son.
In recent years, Mr. McClintock spent most of his time at the Southwest Museum in Pasadena, Cal., and at Yale University, where he lectured on Indian lore.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Frank D. Nicol of Detroit, Mrs. Wallace Osborn of Beach Haven, Wash., and Mrs. Thomas Darling of Kingston, Pa.
