This street was originally named Walnut Street.[1][2]
The Borough of Temperanceville (the modern neighborhood of West End) was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1872,[3] after which this street name conflicted with Walnut Street in Shadyside. It was renamed Wabash Street in 1881 to fix this duplication.[4]
