Sagamore Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Sagamore Street
Neighborhood Esplen
Labelle Street (until 1893)
Second Street (1893–1906)
Origin of name Sequential numbering from Chartiers Creek

This street was laid out as Labelle Street in 1882 in a plan of lots for Mrs. M. L. McGunnegle.[1] In 1893, the streets in Esplen were numbered, and Labelle Street became Second Street.[2][3]

Esplen Borough was annexed by Pittsburgh in January 1906.[4] That September, a Pittsburgh city ordinance renamed many streets in the old borough, and Second Street became Sagamore Street.[5]

The formerly numbered streets in Esplen form one of Pittsburgh's F–S–T sequences.
