A street in the location of modern Rodman Street appears, unlabeled, in the 1862 map of S. N. and F. W. Beers.[1] It was originally named Ross Street.[2]
The East End, including East Liberty, was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1868.[3] In 1881, many streets were renamed to fix duplicates; Ross Street in East Liberty conflicted with Ross Street downtown, so it was renamed Rodman Street.[4]
