Hillsview Street (until 1955)
Origin of name Hillsview Terrace plan of lots

The story of this street begins in 1937, when the Hillsview Terrace plan laid out a street named Hillsview Street in Green Tree Borough running northeast from Potomac Avenue;[1] today this street is named Hillsview Terrace. In 1950, the Green Tree Manor plan no. 3 laid out a disconnected segment of Hillsview Street to the north, running southeast from Greentree Road.[2] This northern segment of Hillsview Street was extended to the Pittsburgh city line in 1953,[3] and in 1954 the Parkway Manor plan laid out a loop of Hillsview Street within Pittsburgh city limits.[4] The two pieces of Hillsview Street would be joined in 1958.[5]

In 1955, just a year after Hillsview Street had been laid out in Pittsburgh, residents of the street petitioned City Council to change its name to Oriole Drive.[6] The name Oriole was already in use by Oriole Way in Garfield, so Council passed an ordinance that changed Oriole Way to Oil Way and Hillsview Street to Oriole Drive.[7]
