A short piece of this street appears in the 1882 Hopkins atlas, drawn with dotted lines extending eastward from Ruth Street.[1] The street appears more fully in the 1890 edition, unlabeled and mostly drawn with dotted lines through the property of Mary A. Bailey.[2] The 1901 edition labels it Katharine Street.[3] Katharine Street was included in Clifford B. Harmon's 1903 Grandview plan.[4]
After Allegheny City was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907,[5] this name conflicted with that of Katherine Street on the North Side. Over 900 streets were renamed in 1910 to fix such duplications; Katharine Street in Mount Washington was changed to Kathleen Street.[6]
