Englert Street

From Pittsburgh Streets

Not to be confused with Engstler Street in St. Clair.

Englert Street
Neighborhood Overbrook
Origin of name J. F. Englert
Carlisle Street (until 1930)
Portion East of Dartmore Street
Inglewood Avenue (until 1930)
Portion West of Dartmore Street
Origin of name Possibly a modification of Englert

The portion of this street east of Dartmore Street was laid out as Carlisle Street in 1920 in the Inglewood Gardens plan by the Englert Brothers Company.[1] The name Inglewood may have been invented by modifying the name Englert.

The portion west of Dartmore Street was laid out as Inglewood Avenue in 1927 by the E. S. S. Land Company.[2] It was named for the adjacent Inglewood Gardens plan.

J. F. Englert was the president of both of the companies laying out these plans.[1][2]

Overbrook Borough was annexed by Pittsburgh in January 1930.[3] That April, a city ordinance changed many of the street names in the former borough: Carlisle Street and Inglewood Avenue were together renamed Englert Street.[4]
