Blessing Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Blessing Street
Neighborhoods Polish Hill, Upper Hill
Origin of name Maybe Frank C. S. Blessing
Bellefield Avenue
Origin of name Bellefield, the farm of Neville B. Craig

This street appears in the 1872 Hopkins atlas as the northern extension of Bellefield Avenue.[1] After the construction of Bigelow Boulevard (then called Grant Boulevard), it was cut off from the rest of Bellefield Avenue in Oakland.[2] It was renamed Blessing Street in 1910.[3] Perhaps the name honors Frank C. S. Blessing (1876–1941), a physician who was the president of Common Council at the time (1909–1911), the last president of that body before the reorganization of City Council in 1911.[4][5][6]
