The 1890 Hopkins atlas shows a small plan of lots on Brunot Island, laid out by F. Briggs, consisting of five named streets and three unnamed alleys.[1] These are the only streets to have ever been laid out on the island, to the best of my knowledge.
One of the two streets in the plan running northeast–southwest was Allequippa Street,[1] named for Queen Alliquippa (died 1754), leader of a band of the Seneca people. The other streets in the plan were Brunot Street, Front Street, Jerome Street, and Water Street.
All of the streets in Briggs' plan disappeared by 1902, replaced by a one-mile racetrack belonging to the Matinee Club of Pittsburgh and Allegheny.[2]
