This street was laid out as Alderson Avenue in 1893 in the Midway plan of lots.[1][2] It was named for John Alderson, who had formerly owned property between modern Murray Avenue and Shady Avenue, from Forward Avenue roughly as far south as Beechwood Boulevard.[3][4][5]
A city ordinance establishing its location in 1899 called it Alderson Street,[6] and this name became official in 1910.[7]
