Origin of name Walter Forward

Forward Avenue is named for Walter Forward (1786–1852), a Pittsburgh lawyer, U. S. Representative, fifteenth U. S. Secretary of the Treasury, and presiding judge of the District Court of Allegheny County.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] See also Bates Street.

The portion of Forward Avenue between Murray Avenue and Beechwood Boulevard was part of Pocusset Street from 1896 to 1901.[8][9]
