Totten Way

Thompson Way (until 1910)

This former alley ran from Kearns Avenue to Greentree Road in the area opposite Junius Street. It was laid out as Thompson Way in a plan of lots for John Manchester and Ephraim and Ann Clay, recorded in 1868.[1] It appears in the 1872 Hopkins atlas.[2]

In 1910, over 900 Pittsburgh thoroughfares were renamed to fix duplicates; Thompson Way was renamed Totten Way to avoid confusion with Thompson Street in Larimer.[3]

This alley was never opened for public use, and by 1929 all surrounding land was the property of the Pittsburgh and West Virginia Railways Company, so Totten Way was vacated by a city ordinance that year.[4]
