Drake Way (1914–1925)

This alley was laid out as Drake Alley in 1904 in a plan of lots for L. Vilsack.[1] The plan was approved, and its streets accepted as city streets, by an ordinance in 1908.[2]

Drake Alley became Drake Way in 1914, when another ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[3]

In 1919, a previously unnamed alley to the south, in the same line as this alley, was made part of Drake Way.[4] However, the two alleys were never connected, and apparently it was confusing to have two separate alleys with the same name. To fix this, in 1925 this alley, the original Drake Way, was renamed Teak Way.[5] The southern alley remains Drake Way to this day.
