This alley was laid out in 1893 in the Midway plan, though that plan did not give it a name.[1] It was called Sunapee Way in the text of a contract between Thomas A. Watkins and the City of Pittsburgh specified in a city ordinance in December 1923,[2] and this name was made official by another ordinance approved in January 1924.[3]
