1845-01-17: "From Harrisburgh," Pittsburgh Gazette, [p. 2] (Newspapers.com 85131752): "Harrisburg, Friday eve., Jan. 10. ¶ . . . ¶ The Senate resolution, relative to Judge Hustons new law book passed the House unanimously, also the bill to change the location of Water Alley, Allegheny. The latter provides that said Alley shall not be located more than 100 feet from its present position, widened to 18 feet, and not to be done unless without compelling the city of Allegheny, or individuals from paying damages for opening the same."

1855-04-23: Source:Change-of-name: "The Common Council of Allegheny, on Thursday last, passed a resolution changing the name of Water Alley to Brewer Avenue. The Select Council refused to concur in the action. We hope some change may be made. Water Alley is no more an alley than a hundred thoroughfares in the two cities which are dignified with the title of 'street.'"
