This street was originally laid out as 16th Avenue in 1903 as part of the West Liberty Plan No. 4 by the Beechwood Improvement Company.[1] The avenues in this plan continued the numbering from the West Liberty Plans No. 2 and 3.[2][3]
In 1907, a West Liberty borough ordinance changed 16th Avenue to Renton Avenue.[4]
The Borough of West Liberty was annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1908.[5] The next year, a Pittsburgh city ordinance changed Renton Avenue to Recinto Street.[6] It was changed again to Lettie Hill Street in 1911.[7] (The ordinance actually spelled it "Lettie-Hill," with a hyphen, but the current street sign has a space.)
