This street was laid out as Leland Avenue in two plans of lots in 1888 and 1892.[1][2]
Allegheny City was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907.[3] Leland Avenue became Leland Street in 1910, when a Pittsburgh ordinance that officially established the names of all streets in the enlarged city listed "Leland, from Taggart to Mayfield, 26th wd.," and declared that "all names not otherwise designated in this Ordinance shall be and the same are hereby fixed as 'streets.'"[4]
