Index Way

From Pittsburgh Streets
Index Way
Neighborhood West Oakland
Fate Vacated in 1945
Index Alley (until 1914)

Index Way formerly ran from Lothrop Street to De Soto Street, between Victoria Street and Terrace Street.

It was laid out in 1871 in a plan of lots for J. C. Bidwell, though that plan did not give it a name.[1] It was named Index Alley by a city ordinance in 1881 that established the names of all streets and alleys in Pittsburgh.[2] It became Index Way in 1914, when another ordinance changed all alleys in the city to ways.[3]

Index Way was vacated in 1945.[4]
