Hill Alley (until 1896)
Portion Southwest of Adair Street

Herman Street was originally laid out in 1858 in a plan of lots by Adam Reineman.[1]

This plan also included a narrow alley continuing the line of Herman Street southwest of Ann Street (today Adair Street), named Hill Alley.[1] Hill Alley was made part of Herman Street by an Allegheny city ordinance in 1896.[2] This alley had apparently effectively disappeared by 1910: a Pittsburgh city ordinance from that year, officially establishing the names of all streets and alleys in the city, listed "Herman, from Adair to Gardner, 24th wd."[3]
