This street was laid out as Elgin Street in J. B. Smith's plan of Smithvale, recorded in 1886.[1] After Allegheny City was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907,[2] this name conflicted with that of Elgin Street in Highland Park. Over 900 streets were renamed in 1910 to fix such duplications, and Elgin Street in old Allegheny City became Elreno Street.[3]
