This street appears as Chauncy Street (with no E) in the 1852 map of R. E. McGowin.[1] This spelling was confirmed by an 1881 city ordinance that officially established the names of all streets in Pittsburgh.[2] A similar ordinance in 1910 introduced the E, spelling it Chauncey Street.[3] The spelling change was probably unintentional, but the new spelling stuck.
