Calvin Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Calvin Street
Neighborhood Central Lawrenceville

This street appears, unlabeled, in R. E. McGowin's 1852 map of Pittsburgh; the surrounding lots are labeled "Rev. R. Lee" and "Dr. Robinson."[1] It was named Calvin Street in a plan of lots by Samuel H. Keller, recorded in 1864.[2] This name also appears in James S. Devlin's plan, recorded in 1877,[3] and was officially established by a city ordinance in 1881.[4]

The Hopkins atlases of the late 19th century repeatedly misspelled the name of this street: "Catvin Street" in 1872,[5] "Colvin Street" in 1882,[6] and "Galvin Street" in 1890.[7]
