The part of this street northeast of Motor Street was laid out as Ash Street in 1892 in the Sheraden Land & Improvement Company's addition to the Sheraden Terrace plan.[1] It was extended as Ashlyn Avenue in the 1901 Keystone plan.[2]
Sheraden Borough was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907,[3] and the following year a city ordinance combined Ash Street and Ashlyn Avenue into Ashlyn Street.[4] (There was another Ash Street in Brighton Heights, which no longer exists.)
