This alley was laid out as Acme Alley in 1907 in the plan of the Fourth Ward of Brookline by the West Liberty Improvement Company.[1]
This part of Brookline was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1912.[2] Acme Alley became Acme Way in 1914, when a Pittsburgh city ordinance changed all alleys in the city to ways.[3]
