The part of this avenue northeast of Glenbury Street was originally Wilson Street in the Fairhaven plan, laid out for the Pittsburgh and Castle Shannon Railroad Company and recorded in 1872.[1] It may have been named for Wesley Wilson, a director of the company.[2]
The portion southwest of Glenbury Street was laid out as Aaron Avenue in the Fairhaven Place plan, recorded in 1892. This plan was laid out by I. H. Aaron, who named this avenue for himself.[3]
Overbrook Borough was annexed by Pittsburgh in January 1930,[4] and that April a city ordinance made Wilson Street part of Aaron Avenue.[5]
