This street appears in the Zimmerman Park plan of lots, laid out in February 1890, though that plan does not give it a name.[1] The Boggs Place plan, laid out that November, named it Valley Avenue for its location in the Saw Mill Run valley.[2][3] It was renamed Timberland Avenue by a West Liberty Borough ordinance in 1907.[4]
