This alley appears, unlabeled, in the 1898 Hopkins atlas.[1] It is named Sun Alley in the 1904 edition.[2] It became Sun Way in 1914 when an ordinance changed all alleys in the city to ways.[3]
Bob Regan includes "Sun" in a list of astronomy-related street names.[4]
