Origin of name Thomas Algeo Rowley

Rowley Street is named for Thomas Algeo Rowley (1808–1892), Union general in the American Civil War. He was born in the Hill District and spent his entire life there except for his army service in the Mexican–American and Civil Wars. He raised the 13th and 102nd Pennsylvania Infantry regiments in Pittsburgh and served as their colonel; he also commanded a division at Gettysburg.[1]
