Kenwood Avenue

From Pittsburgh Streets
Kenwood Avenue
Neighborhood Perry South
South Kenwood Avenue (until ca. 1895)

This street was first laid out in 1889 in a plan of lots by the Elliott Plant Company, though that plan did not give it a name.[1][2] In a revised plan recorded in 1892, it is labeled South Kenwood Avenue; the "South" prefix probably referred to its location at the southern edge of the plan.[3] By 1895, however, it had come to be called simply Kenwood Avenue.[4][5][6] Allegheny City was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907,[7] and the name Kenwood Avenue was officially established by a Pittsburgh city ordinance in 1910.[8]
