Joseph Street was first laid out in a plan of lots for the East Liberty Bauverein (Building Association), recorded in 1866. It was likely named for Joseph Laurent, trustee of the association.[1]
Joseph Street was extended southeast of Larimer Avenue in 1901 in the Ball Park plan.[2]
