| Origin of name | Verina Itin (or Iten) |
Itin Street was first laid out in 1856 in a plan of lots by Verina Iten (or Itin). Her surname is spelled Iten three times in the plan, but the street is clearly named Itin.[1] In a subsequent plan, her surname is spelled twice Itin and twice Iten.[2] The street name has also been spelled both Itin and Iten, but the spelling Itin was officially established by a Pittsburgh city ordinance in 1910.[3]
