This street was laid out as Frederick Street in 1900 in the Bon-Air plan of lots.[1] It was renamed Roseton Avenue by a West Liberty Borough ordinance in 1907.[2] West Liberty Borough was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1908,[3] and the following year a Pittsburgh city ordinance confirmed the name Roseton Avenue.[4]

The portion of Roseton Avenue west of Institute Street was originally part of Bon Air Avenue. It was made part of Roseton Avenue in 1941.[5]
