Davison Street is named for Edward Davison, who laid out the portion of the street between modern Main Street and 42nd Street as part of a plan of lots in 1851.[1] This street and the lots in Davison's plan appear in the 1852 map by R. E. McGowin.[2]

The portion of Davison Street northeast of 45th Street was originally part of Cemetery Street, a right-angled street that bent around the westernmost corner of St. Mary Cemetery.[2] It became part of Davison Street by 1870.[3][4][5]
