This alley, between Bristol Street and Bigelow Street, was laid out in 1888 in a plan of lots by Edwin Collins. This plan did not give the alley a name, but it did give the name Christmas Street to the street opposite the alley to the east of Bristol Street.[1] The names Christmas Street and Christmas Alley were officially established by a Pittsburgh city ordinance in 1910.[2] Christmas Alley became Christmas Way in 1914 when another ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[3]
The current street sign at Bristol Street says only "Christmas Way"; there is no indication of Christmas Street.
