Center Alley (until 1927)
Origin of name Its location in a plan of lots by Knox and Bausman

This alley was laid out as Center Alley in a plan by William W. Knox and Frederick Bausman, recorded in 1873. It was so named because it was in the center of the plan.[1]

Knoxville Borough was annexed by Pittsburgh in January 1927.[2] That March, a Pittsburgh city ordinance renamed many streets and alleys in the former borough to fix duplications with streets elsewhere in the city. To avoid confusion with Centre Avenue, Center Alley was changed to Chalrock Way.[3]
