This alley was laid out as Barnett Alley (or Barnetts Alley) in a plan of lots by Thomas Barnett and Jacob Geyer, recorded in 1834.[1]
Allegheny City was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907.[2] In 1910, a Pittsburgh city ordinance renamed many streets and alleys in the enlarged city to fix duplicates. There was another Barnett Alley in the Hill District (today Barnett Way), so the Barnett Alley on the North Side was renamed Brim Alley.[3]
Brim Alley became Brim Way in 1914, when another ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[4]
