Oakland Square was laid out in 1889 in two plans of lots by Eugene M. O'Neill and H. L. Rook.[1][2]

In 1910, a city ordinance changed Oakland Square to Argentina Place (or Argentine Place).[3][4][5][6] This name was short-lived, however: it was changed back to Oakland Square in 1915.[7]
