Anchor Alley (until 1914)

Anchor Way formerly ran from Lothrop Street to Bouquet Street, between Fifth Avenue and Victoria Street.

It was laid out from Lothrop Street to De Soto Street in 1871 in a plan of lots for J. C. Bidwell, though that plan did not give it a name.[1] It was named Anchor Alley by a city ordinance in 1881 that established the names of all streets and alleys in Pittsburgh.[2] It had been extended to Bouquet Street by 1889, slightly offset from the original segment.[3] Anchor Alley became Anchor Way in 1914, when another ordinance changed all alleys in the city to ways.[4]

Anchor Way was vacated bit by bit by ordinances in 1929, 1955, and 1957.[5][6][7]
