Upfold Alley (until 1914) |
This alley was laid out in 1871 in a plan of lots by E. P. Jones and Charles Jeremy, though that plan did not give it a name.[1] It was named Upfold Alley by a city ordinance in 1881.[2] It became Upfold Way in 1914, when another ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[3]
It may be named for George Upfold (1796–1872), who was the rector of Trinity Church in Pittsburgh from 1831 until 1849, when he was made the first Episcopal bishop of Indiana.[4][5]
