This alley was laid out as Starling Alley in 1901 in the Westinghouse Park plan of lots. Three of the four alleys in this plan were named for birds: Starling, Lark, and Wren.[1]
Starling Alley became Starling Way in 1914, when a city ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[2]
