Sharp Alley first appeared in the 1890 Hopkins atlas, running between Clearview Street (today Chislett Street) and Beatty Street, with a break between Wayne Alley (today Samantha Way) and Portland Alley (today Portland Way). The alley was likely named for J. Sharp, the owner of a lot at the intersection of this alley with Beatty Street.[1]
The portion of Sharp Alley east of St. Clair Street was renamed Snively Alley in 1910, which left only the part between Chislett Street and Samantha Alley with the name Sharp.[2][3] Sharp Alley became Sharp Way in 1914, when a city ordinance changed all alleys to ways.[4]
