This street appears as Shady Avenue in the 1876 Hopkins atlas.[1]
After Allegheny was annexed to the City of Pittsburgh in 1907, this name conflicted with Shady Avenue in the East End, so it was renamed Shadeland Avenue by a city ordinance in 1910.[2]
The Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood is named partly for Shadeland Avenue; see Marshall Avenue for more details.
