Rue Grande Vue was the name of this street when it was part of Chartiers Township, and it was accepted without change in 1922 after the area was annexed into the City of Pittsburgh.[1][2] The name is French for 'Grand View Street,' for its location at the West End Overlook (see also Grandview Avenue).
The official name is simply Rue Grande Vue, as specified in the 1922 ordinance[2] and on current street signs. It is incorrect and redundant to call it Rue Grande Vue Street, since rue already means 'street.' See also Valle Rue, another street called "Rue."
