Source:Stringtown, p. 63: "David Rittenhouse Kuhn, a member of an old American family, some of whom spelled their name 'Coon,' moved into East Liberty from Plum Township in 1849 when he was 34 years old. Two years later he built a modern grist mill at 219 Collins Avenue, not far from where the old Negley Mill had stood. It operated for 25 years. Later Mr. Kuhn opened a grocery store under the name of D. R. Kuhn and Son. Eventually this became Kuhn Brothers and Company. There were five sons and one daughter born to the David R. Kuhns; James C., Henry P., and William Rittenhouse, all of whom were caterers and Emanuel Statler, David Chalmers and Margaritte. The Kuhns were in business for many years."
