1847-02-08: "Valuable lots for sale," Pittsburgh Gazette and Advertiser, [p. 2] (Newspapers.com 95769130): "THE subscribers offer for sale TWO LOTS of Ground, situate on Tomato street in the Third Ward of Allegheny City, each 20 feet front running 100 feet back, upon which is erected a two story frame dwelling house, 24 feet front, built in the best and most modern style, with kitchen and carriage house, with a large cistern in the yard, and all the walks paved with brick. The lots are planted with choice fruit trees, shrubbery, flowers, &c. A handsome porch is attached to the front, extending round the west end. ¶ This property will be sold on reasonable terms—the payment of ¼ only being required in hand, the balance in ten years with interest. Apply to ¶ J & H PHILLIPS ¶ at their Oil Cloth and Paint Store, No 5 Wood street, Pittsburgh. feb8"

1867-07-12: "Council meeting," Pittsburgh Gazette, p. 1 (Newspapers.com 85572518): "A regular semi-monthly meeting of Allegheny City Councils was held Thursday evening, July 11th. ¶ . . . ¶ Common Council. ¶ . . . ¶ Mr. Smith presented a petition from the residents of Tomato street, in the Third ward, asking taht the name of said street be changed to Linden street. Accompanying the petition was a resolution instructing the Recording Regulator to change the name of the street as prayed for. The petition was accepted and the resolution adopted."

1867-08-09: "Allegheny Councils," Pittsburgh Commercial, [p. 4] (Newspapers.com 85264227): "A regular meeting of the Councils of Allegheny City was held last evening. ¶ Select Branch. ¶ . . . ¶ An ordinance was adopted changing the name of Chestnut street to Juniata street, and Tomato street to Linden street."
